My World of Parkinsonian Delights

Measuring Cognitive Score Decline

As longtime readers of this blog know, I’ve been using the CNS Vital Signs program to test myself in several areas of cognition since January.  Here are the latest results for the upcoming month of July.

Neurocognitive Index:

January — Score 106 — 66th Percentile (Average is a score of 90-109)
April — Score 111 — 77th Percentile (Above average is a score of higher than 109)  🙂
June — Score 109 — 73rd Percentile  😦
July — Score 108 — 70th Percentile
A subtle drop in a month.

Composite Memory:

January — Score 97 — 42nd Percentile (Average, 90-109)
April — Score 95 — 37th Percentile 😦
June — Score 89 — 23rd Percentile 😦
July — Score 79 — 8th Percentile
A continued, steeper decline.  An 18 point, 34 percentile drop since January.

Verbal Memory:

January — Score 96– 40th Percentile
April — Score 71 — 3rd Percentile (Low, 70-79)  😦
June — Score 93 — 32nd Percentile 🙂
July — Score 68 — 1st percentile
Worst score yet.  So, which are the outliers?  Jauary and June, or April and July?

Visual Memory:

January — Score 100 — 50th Percentile
April — Score 122 — 93rd Percentile  🙂
June — Score 90 — 25th Percentile 😦
July — Score 100 — 50th Percentile
Back to where I was in January.

Processing Speed:

January — Score 109 — 73rd Percentile
April — Score 125 — 95th Percentile  🙂
June — Score 95 — 37th Percentile  😦
July — Score 118 — 88th Percentile.
Seems like June might have been an outlier.

Executive Function:

January — Score 118 — 88th Percentile
April — Score 122 — 93rd Percentile  🙂
June — Score 133 — 99th Percentile 🙂
July — Score 125 — 95th Percentile
A subtle drop.  But I don’t think this test does an adequate job of testing EF.

Psychomotor Speed:

January — Score 96 — 46th Percentile
April — Score 112 — 79th Percentile  🙂
June — Score 101 — 53rd Percentile 😦
July — Score 103 — 58th Percentile
A subtle increase.

Reaction Time:

January — Score 116 — 86th Percentile
April — Score 124 — 95th Percentile  🙂
June — Score 127 — 96th Percentile 🙂
July — Score 128 — 97th Percentile
Steady improvement in Reaction Time.  🙂

Cognitive Flexibility:

January — Score 118 — 88th Percentile
April — Score 123 — 94th Percentile  🙂
June — Score 127 — 96th Percentile 🙂
July — Score 123 — 63rd Percentile
Holding steady.

So, this shows a continuing decline in memory with everything else holding more or less steady.
