My World of Parkinsonian Delights

I Guess We Never Learn!

A federal judge in New Orleans has lifted the six-month moratorium on deep water oil drilling implemented by President Obama after the Deepwater Horizon disaster.

Why is it that some people are so dense?

I understand the problem with people and their livelihoods.  But you know what?  Times change, big corporations cut corners to save money to make the stockholders happy and disasters like BP killing the Gulf Coast happen.

Imagine this argument carried over to its logical extreme.

“But President Lincoln!  We CAN’T outlaw slavery.  Just think of all the slave catchers and overseers you’ll put out of work.”

“We can’t outlaw whaling!  The guys who boil down the blubber into oil will be out of a job!”

“Whaddya mean buying a car?  Do you realize what this will do to the buggy whip industry?”

“Electricity?  Hogwash!  The people who make oil lamps will have to go on relief.”

Just because people are making money at it doesn’t mean it’s a good thing.

But… I guess we just never learn.

  1. Argh, but that was part of the argument for pro-slaver sadly (the whig party was kinda nuts; a little like our neocons).

They shouldn’t have lifted it. I’ll bet the next accident happens before the even have this one stopped. Big oil is determined to kill the world any way they can.
